Lilacs F to L (Lilacs A - Z Coffee Table Books)

Lilacs F to L (Lilacs A - Z Coffee Table Books) Overview

A series of books that identify full color images of Lilacs. All images are correctly identified from tags that were attached to the bushes at the time they were photographed. Due to the size of the completed books, we have broken Lilacs A to Z into four books, varieties that start with A through E, F through L, M through Q, and R through Z.

Years ago I lived in Rochester, NY, which has a park with hundreds of Lilac bushes. Each spring there is a Lilac Festival, usually during the peak blooming season for the majority of the bushes. There are some that bloom ahead of the rest, and some late blooming, but since I lived in the area, I could photograph all the Lilacs at their peaks.

I got my love of lilacs from my Grandmother, who had a beautiful, large lilac bush in front of her country farmhouse. Every Spring when we visited her the smell of lilacs floated in the air and through the open windows into the house. It was tall enough to shade part of the yard where I would sit and read.

After photographing the Lilacs for years, I started to realize that I wanted to know more about them, what they actually were. After that I started photographing not only the bushes but also the tags and signs around them so that I could accurately identify the specific varieties.

All identifications were made from tags attached to the lilac bushes as they were photographed. Any bush without a tag is not included in this book.

We hope you enjoy this Coffee Table book that fits on your Kindle and brings a breath of Spring into your day.

Best viewed on Kindle color apps, or Kindle Fire, but still looks good in Black and White.

Religious and political leaders, artists, scientists, and adventurers are all represented in these pages - cultural icons of the greatest fame and obscurities that will surprise the reader. Albert Einstein is here, of course, and so is Madame Curie. Crucial issues of race are examined in the lives of not only Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama, but of Jesse Owens and Jackie Robinson and Muhammad Ali. Certainly Abraham Lincoln and George Washington were the indispensable men. But what of Thomas Paine, Igor Stravinsky, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Walt Disney, Rachel Carson, Steve Jobs, and Steve Wozniak? This is a book of vibrant history, and it is also a book that is fun of fun-fun facts, fun tidbits, fun arguments, fun and rarely seen pictures. It is also a smart book that will appeal to the inquisitive school kid as much as to his or her parents.

The Big Book of Horses (Big Book of . . . (Welcome Books))

The Big Book of Horses (Big Book of . . . (Welcome Books)) Overview

J. C. Suarés’ best-selling series of dog- and cat-inspired books have charmed and amused animal lovers throughout the past decades. In this book, Suarés relies on his horsemanship to dive into the emotional, aesthetic, athletic, and poetic world of the equine. The mystique and power of the untamed horse, the heroism of the war horse, the dependability of the workhorse, the pleasure and thrill derived from the companion or show horse—these are but a few of the reasons this noble creature has inspired love and reverence throughout all cultures. With photographs of everything from Roy Rogers and his fabulous Palomino to the intrepid Seabiscuit, from great jumpers to Vienna’s Lippizaners, from Arabian stallions to thoroughbred mares and their foals, from rodeos and wild Mustangs to ponies and their children, The Big Book of Horses is sure to warm the hearts of horse lovers everywhere. This 384-page tome contains more than 230 images—printed in duotone—taken by such passionate horse photographers as Mark J. Barrett, Bob Langrish, and Alain Laurioux.
The images are complemented by J. C.’s own whimsical horse drawings and by excerpts—both literary and personal—from the works of such diverse writers as Leo Tolstoy, Cormac McCarthy, and others, and from stories and anecdotes by horse owners and aficionados.
From the horse with a double-sized heart to Triple Crown champions, from General Lee’s Traveller to Buffalo Bill’s Charlie, The Big Book of Horses is filled with the remarkable, the famous, the beautiful and the bold. It’s a fitting tribute to our mythic equine friends.
